About / John Reilly

Photographer.
Husband. Loud-music enjoyer.

I'm John. I started taking photos at concerts because I found out you could get free tickets at some spots. That was almost 15 years ago and now I'm lucky enough to photograph concerts, weddings, music fests, engagements, and a ton of other beautiful stuff.

I love the little moments that happen at all events; the simple smile, the guitar riff with the perfect expression, the groom admiring his wife. Being able to capture that, in its most authentic way, is why I love being a photographer.

How I work / 02
01

All the Moments

I got my start shooting concerts and music fests, a place where you have little to no control over the subject or the light, but need to capture the essence of the moment. I bring those learned lessons to weddings, but have the benefit of being able to control light and pose when needed.

02

Any light, any setting.

I can make any space perfect for the shot. Sure it's awesome to be shooting in the Rockies or in New Orleans, but I've made church basements and the smallest dressing rooms come to life. It's about the right lighting, in the right spots, at the right setting to make something bland something special.

03

Fast turnaround

Bands need photos before the moment passes. Couples need to share with people while they're still riding the high of that amazing day. All weddings are fully edited and sent over within 30 days.

The story / 03

15 years, briefly.

2011

Free concerts?

I couldn't afford concert tickets for a show and read on Reddit to reach out to the band and offer to shoot it. I got my first photo pass.

2015

Went full time

After years of music photography, I got to cover Bonnaroo. A big time photographer asked if I did it full time. I said no. He told me I should. I quit my day job and put everything I had into making it real.

2016

First Year Posing People

I'm not going to lie, my poses were rough in the beginning. I would google "good engagement poses" in the middle of a shoot. I hope no one noticed, but couples said they loved the pics. So I kept going.

2019

A very busy year

I shot around 30 weddings in 2019, 6 music fests, and probably 50 concerts, with portraits and engagements scattered in the little downtime. I learned a lot this year.

2020

COVID Sucked

You were all there, it wasn't a good time for anyone. Business plummeted and I had to find a day job again.

2025

Fully back to shooting weddings and portraits, slowly getting back to fests and shows. The day job is still a thing, but my passion and love for photography is stronger than ever.

John shot our wedding like he'd known us for years. We got photos of moments we didn't even know were happening — and somehow the ones we DID plan look effortless too.

Best tour photographer we've worked with, full stop. He gets the band AND the crowd, doesn't get in the way, and turns around the gallery before we've even gotten home.

Hired him for engagement photos on a friend's recommendation. Came away with my new favorite picture of myself and a friend.
